How to book an appointment for a Covid vaccine or booster shot in Spain
Here are instructions for making an appointment to get vaccinated against coronavirus in Spain
It’s very easy to get a Covid vaccine in Spain if you’re a resident and are registered with the Spanish healthcare system. Whether you need your first, second or third jab, just follow the information below to book an appointment to get vaccinated.
Book an appointment in person
The easiest way to get an appointment to get vaccinated in Spain is to go to your local health centre and ask for one.
- If you have not yet had your first Covid jab, you can go to the health centre and ask for an appointment. They will give you one for a time in the very near future, if not straight away.
- If you have had your first jab and are waiting for the second vaccine, you should have been given the time and place for your second shot when you had your first. If you didn’t, explain the problem to the receptionist at the health centre and they will help you.
- If you wish to book your third Covid jab – the booster shot – you will be given an appointment as long as at least 5 months have passed since you got your second vaccine.
Don’t be surprised if the people who work in the health centre don’t speak English. If you don’t speak Spanish, take along someone who does to help you.
Book an appointment online
Each autonomous community in Spain – Andalucía, Catalonia, Murcia etc. – has its own different website to book an appointment for a Covid vaccine online. If you prefer to book over the internet, search for the local health service (‘servicio de salud’) for the autonomous community where you live and are registered, then follow the rules to book an appointment (‘pedir cita previa de vacunación Covid-19’).
All you will need to provide in order to make an appointment is the number on your health card and possibly your name and date of birth.
Most of the time, this process is not available in English. If you can’t read Spanish, ask for help from someone who does.
Covid certificate in Spain
If you have already been fully vaccinated against Covid, or you have recently had the disease, you may want to download the Covid passport, which may be needed to travel abroad or get into certain venues in Spain.
