Free public transport in Málaga this summer: Who's eligible and how to apply
Big savings for young people, families and regular passengers as travel discounts return from July

The regional government has confirmed that from Monday July 1, free and reduced fares will be available on local transport systems in Málaga, including the EMT buses, metro and Consortium routes.
These savings will remain in place for at least six months.
Children under 14 can travel for free, as long as they have a Youth Transport Card issued by the Junta de Andalucía. Other cardholders under 30 can also get an extra 50 percent discount on top of the usual reduced fares.
That is not all. All public transport users with any kind of Andalusian consortium card, metro pass or multi-trip intercity card will continue to benefit from an additional 40 percent discount from July onwards.
If you are under 30 and live in Andalucía, applying for the Youth Transport Card is straightforward. You can apply online or in person. Just make sure you have the following:
- A valid DNI or NIE
- A certificate of registration (empadronamiento) if your current address does not match what is shown on your ID
- A recent colour passport photo
- A mobile number or email so you can be notified about your card
- If you are part of a large family and hold a Consortium card, you will need to provide this too
Once issued, the card is inactive until you top it up. The minimum recharge is 5 euros, and a 1.50 euro processing fee is automatically deducted.
