Friends of British man who died at Ibiza hotel criticise 'disrespectful' behaviour
Friends of Evan Thomson say hotel resumed music and cleaned the area less than two hours after his death

Evan Thomson, 26, from Scotland, died in the early hours of Monday July 7 after falling from the sixth floor of the Ibiza Rocks hotel, where he had been celebrating his birthday with friends.
Emergency services arrived at the scene at around 6am but were sadly unable to save him. He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards, at the scene.
His girlfriend, Remi Duncan, 23, has spoken out about the hotel’s response, calling it “disgusting”. She said, “It had barely been long since Evan died, and the music was playing again. It was like nothing had happened. It makes your stomach churn.”
Friends who were with Evan at the time say hotel staff began pressure-washing the scene just 90 minutes after the incident. Blair Robertson, 25, said, “Hearing the pressure washing from down below was devastating. Everything indicated they wanted to get back to normal as quickly as possible. It was a very hard blow for us.”
The group were reportedly kept waiting for an hour after being told of Evan’s death, before being escorted back to their rooms to pack and moved to a nearby hotel. “They took us out of the hotel around 9am. They wanted to resume the party, as if nothing had happened,” they claimed.
Another friend, James Shan, added that it felt as though the hotel was more concerned with business than the people affected. “It was like they saw everything from a commercial perspective. They posted social media ads for the next party just hours later. It was sickening.”
In a statement, Ibiza Rocks said: “This is an extremely sad and tragic situation.” They added that they have cooperated fully with the authorities and have offered continued support to Evan’s friends via their customer care team, including giving them a direct number for family members to call.
Evan’s mother, Lel Kellighan, wrote on social media: “It is with a broken heart that I have to tell you that my son Evan suffered a tragic accident during his vacation in Ibiza and sadly passed away. We are devastated. We ask for your time.”
