Garrucha, Almeria to get 1.7m euro seafront prom linking the town to Mojacar
The revamped promenade will have a beach bar, car park and marquees, and be ready by next Easter

Work is underway in the Almeria town of Garrucha, halfway between Mojácar and Palomares, to extend and improve the ‘paseo marítimo’ seafront promenade, or the ‘malecón’, as it is known to the locals.
A new section of the prom along the Playa de Garrucha beach will finally link the municipality of Garrucha with Mojácar after years of waiting for this connection.
The strip of seafront promenade running parallel to the coast will have a recreational area for public use and a large play area and park, as well as a new ‘chiringuito’ beach bar and an area to place marquees for exhibitions and outdoor displays.
There will also be a car park with palm trees and a roundabout on the current AL-5105 road to improve access and safety to the nearby petrol station.
The project has a budget of 1.7 million euros, financed entirely by the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which is the vehicle for the Next Generation EU funds, and a completion period of 11 months.
As work began on March 15, it should be finished and ready by Easter 2024.
