Generous golf club fundraiser pays for surgery for 12-year-old rescue dog at PAPS shelter, Murcia
Sandy Clare of El Valle Golf Club raised €500 for PAPS, covering the cost of elbow surgery for long-term resident Greta

There's a heartwarming story coming out of El Valle Golf Club this week after former club treasurer Sandy Clare raised an outstanding €500 for local animal charity PAPS, which cares for rescue dogs in the Region of Murcia.
The donation was collected by Sandra King at El Valle, who was keen to express just how much it means to the charity.
"Huge thank you to Sandy Clare for his donation of €500," she said. "This money will pay for one of our dogs' latest surgeries."
That dog is Greta, a 12-year-old who has been a resident at PAPS since 2018 and recently had to undergo extensive elbow surgery involving multiple veterinary visits and several weeks of recovery. She spent that recovery time with one of PAPS' dedicated volunteers and, by all accounts, made herself very comfortable on the sofa! The good news is that Greta has made a full recovery and is back at PAPS, where everyone is hoping she'll find her forever home before too long. Named after the legendary Swedish-American actress Greta Garbo, she's been waiting patiently for the right family since 2018, and after everything she's been through recently, she deserves nothing less than the perfect ending to her story.
Sandy's fundraising efforts reflect exactly the kind of community spirit that sits at the heart of El Valle Golf Club, and PAPS is grateful for every bit of support it receives. The charity relies entirely on donations and volunteers to keep going, and contributions like this one make a direct and immediate difference to the animals in their care.If you'd like to donate to PAPS, volunteer to help look after their dogs, or find out more about adopting a dog like Greta, get in touch with the charity directly using the contact details below:

The Protectora Animales Perros del Sol (PAPS) is a rescue shelter and foundation to support abandoned dogs in the Costa Cálida area of southern Spain.
Based in El Mirador near San Javier, PAPS provides a safe and caring environment for abandoned or unwanted dogs whilst endeavouring to find them loving, permanent homes.
Established in 2010, over the years PAPS have helped thousands of dogs get the decent quality of life they deserve, largely thanks to the continued generosity of volunteers and supporters who lend their time and money to this worthy cause.
PAPS doesn't receive any funding from the local council and so rely on donations from the public to keep going. If you are able to make a monetary donation, any amount – large or small – is appreciated. With registered charity fiscal number G54504907, you can be sure that your money is going to a legitimate good cause.
Donations can be paid to Caixa Bank IBAN ES98 2100 8241 1102 0008 5418, BIC/SWIFT code CAIXESBBXXX, with the beneficiary 'Perros del Sol'.
As it is a Spanish account in euros, any payment made in GBP from the UK should be made by PayPal (select the option friends and family) to the email address animalesperrosdelsol@hotmail.com.
If you can't afford to make a monetary donation but still want to help, you can feel free to contact them about the possibility of dropping off dog food or doggy treats, or to volunteer your time walking and looking after the dogs.
Better yet, if you want to make a dog's life better permanently, you can adopt one of the pups at PAPS and give it the home it deserves!
Any help is greatly appreciated.
