ARCHIVED - Guest set fire to Malaga hostel room when the shower stopped working and graffitied on the wall in English
The 56-year-old suspect graffitied “I almost died here” in English on the hostel wall along with the manager’s personal details
A 56-year-old man has been arrested by the National Police in Torremolinos (Malaga) for allegedly setting fire to his rented hostel room after the shower broke, as well as painting graffiti on the wall of the property.
Police investigations point to the guest as the alleged perpetrator of an arson attack that took place at around 2.50am on March 21 in a hostel in this town in Malaga.
Spanish police reported that the guest who had been staying in the burnt-out room had had a disagreement with the manager of the establishment due to a broken shower.
The man allegedly proceeded to set fire to the room and graffitied on the outside façade of the property, stating the owner’s personal details, his phone number and the phrase “I almost died here” in English.
Officers didn’t confirm whether the suspect was British, Spanish or of another nationality, but during their inspection they did find a can of flammable liquid and a burnt lighter in the window of the room.
On top of arson charges, the man has also been charged with burglary because he was caught with several items that had been taken from the motorbike of a relative of the hostel manager.
