ARCHIVED - Heavy thunderstorm brings localized flooding to much of Murcia
Over 20 mm of rain in the city of Murcia and other central and northern areas
The rain which had been forecast to reach the Region of Murcia on Wednesday night and Thursday morning failed to materialize in some areas, but a heavy storm brought localized flooding and made streets impassable in the regional capital and other municipalities such as Cieza, Abanilla, Alhama de Murcia, Molina de Segura, Caravaca and Calasparra.
The thunderstorm broke at approximately 6.00 in the morning and in the northern outskirts of Murcia many roads were soon under water. Trees were brought down by winds which gusted at speeds of over 70 km/h from Yecla in the north to the city of Murcia, and the CHS water administration authority reports rainfall of over 25 millimetres in three hours in Cieza and Abanilla.
Other significant figures are reported in Alhama (23 mm), Murcia (22.5), Alguazas (22.4), Calasparra (20.8), Ojós (19.2), Fortuna (18) and Jumilla (17.9).
