ARCHIVED - Huelva hosts the Cante de Moguer flamenco festival on July 10
The Cante de Moguer Festival in Huelva, Andalucia, is back this July for its 47th edition.
Many of Andalucia’s most popular festivals are back this summer, including the prestigious Cante de Moguer flamenco vocal festival in Huelva, which will be hosted on July 10.
Organised by Huelva Provincial Council and Moguer council, the festival is the province’s main flamenco cante event and will this year pay tribute to writer Eduardo Fernandez Jurado.
Taking part this year will be Andalucian Gold Medal winning flamenco singer Arcangel, as well as Maria Terremoto, and singing duo Palodulce. Also performing will be flamenco dancer Mercedes Ruiz.
The festival, which is in its 47th edition, will take place on July 10 at the Caseta Peña Cante Jondo in the “La Parrala” Fairgrounds, from 10.30 pm. Tickets are €15.
The Cante de Moguer Festival has over the years hosted some of the most famous names in flamenco, including Miguel Poveda, Pitingo, El Lebrijano, El Cigala, Antonio Canales, Farruquito and Estrella Morente.
Be warned, this is pure flamenco cante jondo which can be a little harsh on the ears for those unaccustomed to this artform.
Huelva is currently pushing to attract tourists back to the province after a major drop in traveller numbers during the pandemic, with the council offering gastronomic getaways in the city in June.
