ARCHIVED - Illegal Sevilla bomb factory dismantled in residential building
Andalucía police officers have arrested a man for experimenting with dangerous explosive substances in Sevilla
The Guardia Civil in Seville have dismantled an illegal factory which was making explosive, incendiary and pyrotechnic devices in a residential block of flats in the municipality of Castilleja de la Cuesta.
Almost 50 kilos of different precursors to explosive substances and chemical products have been seized in the operation, code-named ‘Piroxilo’, including 22 wicks, 700 electric matches and varying quantities of chemical substances such as potassium chlorate, potassium perchlorate, potassium nitrate, powdered aluminum and powdered magnesium.
Officers also found several machines and other devices used to make explosives and, after further investigation, it was revealed that the detainee was receiving illegal substances in packages from Eastern European countries which were falsely labelled as ‘artesanal products’.
The owner of the bomb factory has been arrested on charges of illegal manufacture and storage of explosives and risk caused by explosives or other substances, as he had endangered other residents by keeping dangerous substances in a residential building.
Police have been able to rule out connection to any radical, violent or criminal gangs and, according to the Guardia Civil, it appears that the culprit was experimenting with the explosive substances out of personal interest.
