International demand drives record passenger numbers at Corvera airport once again
The Region of Murcia's airport has now handled over 445,000 passengers so far this year

The tide appears to be turning for the Region of Murcia International Airport as Corvera has officially closed out the first half of 2026 having handled 447,402 passengers, up 10.7% on the same period last year.
The milestone comes shortly after Ryanair marked its own landmark of 3 million passengers through the Murcia terminal since it opened back in 2019, along with the launch of new routes to Venice and Lille.
Of the 445,433 people who travelled on commercial flights from the airport between January and June, 393,552 were on international routes, up 9.4% on the first half of 2025. Domestic passenger numbers grew even faster over the same period, rising 18.8% to reach 51,881.
Flight operations followed a similar upward trend, with 3,912 take-offs and landings recorded between January and June, a rise of 17.5% compared to the same period last year. Of the 3,263 commercial operations carried out, 2,656 were international flights and 607 were domestic.
June alone brought 111,937 passengers through the airport, a rise of 1.4% on the same month in 2025. The vast majority, 111,309, were commercial passengers, with international travel again accounting for the bulk of that figure at 102,009 passengers. Domestic passenger numbers told a different story in June though, falling 23% year on year to 9,300. Flight operations for the month totalled 917, up 15.8% on June 2025.
Corvera's growth mirrors a wider trend across Spain's airport network. Aena's airports handled 156,246,234 passengers nationwide between January and June, a rise of 3.7% on the same period last year, though slightly below the 4.5% growth recorded over the same period in 2025 compared with 2024. Aircraft movements across the network rose 4% to reach 1,332,699, while cargo volumes increased by 4.2% to 664,355 tonnes.
In June specifically, Aena's network handled 31,639,672 passengers, up 3.8% year on year, with aircraft movements rising 5.9% to 266,076. Cargo volumes dipped slightly, down 0.1% on June 2025, to 107,503 tonnes.
