January 18 Free bird-spotting walk in the salt flats of San Pedro del Pinatar
A morning of ornithological sightseeing in the Regional Park of San Pedro
In the course of this gentle two-hour walk around the salt flats of the regional park of San Pedro del Pinatar there are plenty of chances to observe some of the most representative of the bird species which live and nest in this unique environment, including of course the iconic flamingos which spend part of the year here.
The tour begins at 10.00 at the Charca de Coterillo on the beach of La Torre Derribada (click here for map), and lasts approximately three hours although the distance covered is a mere 3.8 km. Those taking part are asked to avoid wearing brightly coloured clothing, and are advised to bring binoculars, mosquito repellent, a cap, a bite to eat and drinking water.

Getting there
The closest airport is Corvera Airport, Murcia (RMU) or you may use Alicante Airport, Elche (ALC).
By car, drive to Cabo de Palos and enter the La Manga strip from the south. The best way to find Colina del Emperador is by entering the name of the hotel directly into Google Maps and following the directions from here (in-car SatNavs don’t always get it right).
