Until April 12 The world-famous Prado art museum comes to the streets of Cehegín!
50 artistic masterpieces at the Convento de San Esteban in Cehegín
The touring exhibition “El Prado en las Calles” is set for a few months in various locations in the Region of Murcia this spring and early summer, beginning with the town of Cehegín in north-western Murcia from 6th March until 12th April.
During the five weeks the atrium of the Convento de San Esteban is being transformed into an open-air art gallery as prints of some 50 paintings are displayed in the 16th-century church, including some of the most iconic and important works which hang on the walls of El Prado in Madrid. The exhibition is made possible by the support of the Fundación Iberdrola, and along with the prints the materials supplied also include catalogues explaining the history and significance of the paintings which can be seen.
The artists whose work is featured include Goya, El Greco, Sorolla, Rubens, Rembrandt, Durer, El Bosco and Caravaggio.
After this stay in Cehegín the exhibition will travel onwards to the city of Murcia, Lorca and San Javier, continuing an ongoing tour which began in 2019 and has already attracted large numbers of people in 58 municipalities in the regions of Castilla La-Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Andalucía and Valencia.
At the presentation in Cehegín representatives of Iberdrola stressed that this is by no means the only contribution made in recent years to the cultural life of the Region of Murcia, other actions having included the new illumination of the Basílica de la Vera Cruz in Caravaca and the ongoing collaborations with the Roman Theatre Museum in Cartagena and the Museo Salzillo in the regional capital.
