ARCHIVED - January and February weekend activities and tours for all the family at the Roman theatre museum in Cartagena
The program features a new family activity based on the Roman origins of Carnival celebrations
The New Year has begun at the Roman Theatre Museum in Cartagena with a series of weekend tours and activities for various age groups, including a new visit related to Carnival.
The “Festum Romae” Sunday visit is being held on January 21 and 28 and February 5, 12 and 19, and explains how the origins of Carnival lie partly in the Roman celebrations of Lupercalia and Dionysia. This event is intended mainly for children, as participants play games and solve riddles in the museum before taking part in their very own parade in the Roman theatre itself. The activity begins at 11.00.
The “Cartagena Sabor Tres Culturas” tour is being held every Sunday, also at 11.00, and stars at the panoramic lift before moving on to the Castillo de la Concepción, the old cathedral and the Roman Theatre. Along the way information is given about the history of Cartagena in the Middle Ages, when Christians, Jews and Muslims lived side by side, and the visit ends with a tasty tapa!
On Saturdays, meanwhile, the “Del Teatro a la Domus del Pórtico” tour begins at the Roman theatre and its museum and then moves out into the city, taking in the typical old street of La Soledad in the old fishing district and the remains of the portico of the Roman theatre in the Domus del Pórtico. These tours begin at 11.30.
Registration for all three tours can be made through the Cartagena Puerto de Culturas page, and is priced at 15 euros for Cartagena Sabor Tres Culturas, 4 euros for Festum Romae and 6 euros for Del Teatro a la Domus del Pórtico.
