Lidl kicks off 2026 with two new Spanish supermarket openings in January
The brand new stores stores in Madrid and Malaga will add over 2,500 square metres to German retailer's network

German supermarket giant Lidl is kicking off 2026 with two new store openings in Spain this month, investing €8 million and creating 68 jobs in Madrid and Malaga.
The new stores will add more than 2,500 square metres of retail space to Lidl's network, which already has over 700 locations across Spain.
On Friday January 23, a new supermarket will open at Paseo del Doctor Vallejo-Nájera 43 in Madrid with a sales area of more than 1,150 square metres. A week later on January 30, Malaga will get its 60th Lidl store with approximately 1,300 square metres of sales space.
Both stores will stock Lidl's usual range including fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, freshly baked bread and pastries, refrigerated items, packaged dry goods, drinks, cosmetics, personal hygiene products and cleaning supplies. They'll also carry regional products, exclusive general merchandise and the chain's regular themed international food weeks.
Lidl says these openings are a key part of its ongoing expansion plan, which follows sustainability criteria and takes a long-term approach to strengthening its presence across the country.
Lidl contributes more than €8.6 billion annually to Spain's GDP and supports over 180,000 jobs directly and indirectly, with significant effects in provinces facing economic challenges. The company works with around 900 local suppliers and purchases over €7.4 billion in products from national and regional suppliers each year.
As the third-largest food retailer in Spain, Lidl now operates more than 700 stores and employs over 18,500 people across the country.
