Malaga Airport soars into summer with almost 4 million seats on offer
British tourists account for more half the total seats booked to the Costa del Sol
Tourism in Spain has been booming since Easter and the airlines expect 2023 to be the busiest and most profitable summer ever. Not to be left behind, Malaga Airport is soaring into the high season with 3,880,181 seats on offer to destinations across the globe – that’s 19% more airfares than July, August and September last year.
That’s according to the Turismo Costa del Sol tourism board, which confirmed that Malaga is still the most popular destination for the British, who are expected to book 2,451,826 of all the places available. They’re followed by the Italians, with 912,037 seats, the Germans with more than 900,000 and the Swedish market, with 712,047.
"The forecasts indicate that this year will consolidate the recovery that began last year in many of the records and the aim is to improve those that have not yet recovered, especially from priority source markets," acting president of Turismo Costa del Sol, Francisco Salado, said.
On the flip-side, the UK is the country that offers by far the most flights to the Costa del Sol – close to 956,000 airline seats this summer, an increase of 4% compared to 2022. In terms of foreign markets, the Brits are followed at quite a long distance by Germany, which has put on sale almost 300,000 seats to Malaga Airport.
Next in line are France and the Netherlands (200,000 seats), Italy, Ireland and Sweden.
New shuttle bus between Alhaurín de la Torre and the Airport
The town of Alhaurín de la Torre will have a new shuttle bus connection with Malaga Airport this summer, with tickets costing just 57 cents each way, although passengers can also buy unlimited journeys for 10 euros.
The M-169 service will begin on Saturday July 1 and run every 30 minutes between 6.30am and 9.30pm, from Monday to Friday. The connection will operate on the hour, from 9am until 11.30pm, on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
