ARCHIVED - Malaga horse carriage driver arrested for punching foreign tourist and breaking his nose
The Malaga tourist was assaulted after expressing dissatisfaction with his horse-drawn carriage ride
The driver of a horse-drawn carriage in Malaga has been arrested for allegedly breaking the nose of a foreign tourist who was dissatisfied with the fare and the route of the horse journey he had been taken on around the city.
The 32-year-old man under investigation has been arrested for the incident, which took place on the night of June 29 near the Plaza de la Marina in Malaga city, at around 9.30pm.
The attack happened after the tourist, who had previously agreed with the driver on a price for a specific route, expressed his dissatisfaction with the service.
In retaliation, the driver punched the man three times in the face and broke his nose.
The victim, who was not Spanish but whose nationality has not been specified, went to the Foreign Tourist Assistance Service to file a complaint, and from there went to hospital where he was treated for his broken nose, as well as bruising to his face and left elbow.
Police arrested the horse-drawn carriage driver a few days later and the victim identified him as the assailant. The detainee has been charged with a crime of injury and placed at the disposal of the 10th Magistrate’s Court in Malaga.
The drivers of horse-drawn carriages have also come under fire for forcing the animals to work in the hot city in the middle of the day without any shade.
¡Vergonzoso! En plena ola de calor y en ciudades como Málaga los caballos siguen explotados y sometidos, obligados a dar vueltas durante horas tirando de pesados carros y con temperaturas extremas.
