May 9 International Seniors Fair in Los Alcázares
Entertainment, stands, stalls, sevillana dancing and a tapas route for seniors of all nationalities in Los Alcázares
Following the great success of last year’s inaugural event, Los Alcázares is holding its second International Seniors Fair on Saturday 9th May, with a series of activities and events beginning at 10.00 and lasting until 20.00 in the evening.
The aim of the Fair is to recognize and give visibility to the needs and interests of this sector of the population, bringing together companies and institutions with interests in promoting the wellbeing of the less young among us, according to Councillor Ginés Hernández. Special attention will be paid to the problems and challenges faced by non-Spanish elderly people in this country, including the legal aspects of residences and mental health care should these services be required.
(It is important to remember that numerous elderly people from northern Europe spend at least part of the year in Los Alcázares and neighbouring towns and resorts, attracted by the mild winters of the Costa Cálida and the relatively warm seawater of the Mar Menor – certainly a good deal more appetizing than a dip in the North Sea on a blustery February day!)
At the same time a Seniors’ Tapas Route is being held in the bars and restaurants of the town centre, offering a variety of bar snacks and a series of prize draws – this starts at 12.15 and among the establishments taking part are La Colincha, El Rincón de Cristina, Oasis Fusión, Casa India, La Ola- Aperol and Bar Chispazo.
The programme of official events starts at 10.30 with the opening of the event by Mayor Mario Pérez Cervera, Sr Hernández and representatives of the Asociación Osate and this if followed by a demonstration of gymnastics for the elderly. Later in the evening, between 18.30 and 20.00, a session of sevillana dancing is led by the Cartagena y Mar Menor group.
