Mild earthquake shakes Montellano but causes no damage
Magnitude 3 tremor felt across Seville’s Sierra Sur region with residents alerted but safe
A magnitude 3 earthquake was recorded just before 9am yesterday in Montellano, a town nestled in the Sierra Sur area of Seville province. The National Geographic Institute (IGN), part of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, confirmed the quake struck at a shallow depth of 5km.Though the tremor was clearly felt by locals throughout Montellano, no damage has been reported. The IGN reassured the public in a statement that the earthquake caused no harm and was a relatively minor event.
Earthquakes of this size are infrequent but not unusual in the region, which lies within an area of moderate seismic activity. Residents were advised to stay calm and informed, as such natural events can sometimes catch the community by surprise even without being destructive.
Local authorities continue to monitor seismic activity closely to ensure public safety and preparedness.
This incident serves as a reminder of the natural dynamics occurring beneath southern Spain’s landscape, even as daily life goes on largely undisturbed.
