Murcia coast hit by more flooding as 13 people are rescued from AP-7 tunnel
Heavy rain overnight leaves streets underwater in San Pedro del Pinatar and Los Alcázares, where two schools have suspended classes

Storm Adam brought more flooding to the Costa Cálida on Monday night October 19, with streets underwater in San Pedro del Pinatar and Los Alcázares, two schools closed on Tuesday morning and 13 people rescued from a flooded motorway tunnel just across the border in Alicante province.
The tunnel at Pilar de la Horadada on the AP-7 remains closed after a sudden downpour left it submerged. The 13 people rescued from the tunnel were all reported to be safe and well, according to the local Ayuntamiento.
In Los Alcázares, the build-up of mud around school entrances led to the suspension of classes at CEIP Bienvenido Conejero primary school and IES Antonio Menárguez Costa secondary school on Tuesday October 20. The Ayuntamiento requested the closures, which were subsequently confirmed by the regional Education Department to protect pupils, families and teaching staff.
San Pedro del Pinatar was also affected by the overnight downpours, with municipal workers and teams now clearing mud and debris from streets and public spaces. The clean-up is continuing as local services remain on standby in case further heavy rain causes any more problems.
Cartagena also faced difficulties as water levels rose in the Las Colonias and La Maraña ramblas. Authorities issued an orange-level warning overnight, telling people to stay away from areas at risk of flooding. The RM-F54 road near Los Belones was also closed to traffic after the La Carrasquilla rambla rose.
More rain could affect parts of the Region today
While conditions are expected to improve across much of the Region of Murcia, further showers and thunderstorms are possible on Tuesday.
AEMET has issued a yellow weather warning for the Guadalentín Valley, Lorca and Águilas area from 2:00 pm until 10:00 pm, with a 40% to 60% probability of 20mm of rain falling in just one hour.
In Lorca, the Ayuntamiento is also keeping an eye on conditions following the weekend's heavy rain, when municipal and emergency teams dealt with 39 incidents. These included flooded streets, drainage problems and vehicles caught in accumulated water. No serious personal injuries were reported.
Residents are being urged to keep away from flood-prone areas and follow advice from the emergency services, even if the rain has stopped where they live. Anyone facing an emergency should call 112.
