Murcia to launch AI chatbot to answer tourists’ burning questions
The multilingual virtual tour guide should be up and running in Murcia city by summer

If you’ve ever stood in the middle of Murcia city squinting at your phone and wondering where on earth the cathedral is, help could soon be at hand and it won’t even roll its eyes at you.
Murcia is getting its very own tourism chatbot, a virtual assistant designed to answer visitors’ questions about everything from cultural events and local food to must see landmarks across the city.
The high-tech helper will be powered by generative artificial intelligence and available in several languages, so whether you’re asking about tapas in shaky Spanish or searching for sightseeing tips in English, it should have you covered.
According to the project outline, it will work across different electronic devices, meaning tourists can consult it on their mobiles, tablets or laptops as they wander around.
The contract for the service was put out to tender at the end of December for almost €132,000, funded by European money. The deadline for bids closed on Tuesday January 7, 2026 and no fewer than 11 companies threw their hats into the ring, all keen to become Murcia’s digital tour guide.
With a three month execution period and the contract expected to be signed at the beginning of this month, the city council believes the chatbot could be up and running by summer.
According to Murcia City Council, the aim is to offer tourists more experience-based products and make it easier to discover what the municipality has to offer. The assistant will manage information on tourist offices, official guides, points of interest and suggested routes, and it will be updated as events and attractions change throughout the year.
Officials also explained that the chatbot will be able to integrate with other virtual assistants, expanding the amount of information it can access. In theory at least, that means fewer confused holidaymakers and more instant answers.
