Murcia-Almeria high-speed AVE will be finished in 2026 despite delays
Almost 40% of the total budget for the Murcia-Almeria train line has already been allocated
Minister Félix Bolaños has this week offered his guarantee that the high-speed train line between Murcia and Almeria will be fully completed in 2026 despite “technical difficulties” and numerous “concept changes” that have thus far delayed the project. Many of these alterations, such as the ones at the Totana and Lorca stations, are down to problems with the original planning, he added.
"All the deadlines that have been established by the Ministry are being met by Adif," Mr Bolaños assured during a visit to the Cuevas del Almanzora section of rail line in Almeria on Thursday August 3, and he stressed that by now, “practically all” of the vital works for the project are under construction.
Among the delays he alluded to are yet more changes to the plans for the new Totana train station, where building won’t begin until 2025. On the other side of the tracks in Almeria, 165 million euros has been allocated to bury the rail line and adapt the existing station for the arrival of the AVE. Despite the enormous investment, this won’t be completed for another three years.
"Adif is meeting the deadlines that are demanding, but it is doing it with great professionalism and with great care," he added.
The acting minister confirmed that 38.2% of the overall budget has already been allocated and reiterated that “the works of the AVE to Almeria are going at full speed.”
"There has never been an investment as important as the one we are addressing, both in Almería and Andalusia, and that is why I think it is very good news that we are aware that the works are advancing," he concluded.
