ARCHIVED - Nearly 150 further hospitalizations in just 24 hours across Andalusia: Covid update July 20
Nine further Covid deaths reported in Sevilla, Málaga, Córdoba, Cádiz and Granada
Andalucía’s latest Covid update, published on July 20, shows a further increase in both daily cases and cumulative incidence rate, as well as the highest number of deaths since June 30.
The number of cases registered in the past 24 hours is 3,687, making today the fifth day in a row with over 3,500 new daily cases.
Málaga is still the province with the highest number of cases, with 1,137, followed by Cádiz (714), Sevilla (565), Córdoba (477), Almería (316), Granada (204), Huelva (144) and Jaén (130).
The cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 14 days has risen even further and is now 418.5; 22.88 points higher than the previous update on July 19 and 120.4 points higher than a week ago (July 13).
Andalucía is one of the 16 Spanish regions in the extreme risk zone (incidence rate over 250); the only Comunidad Autónoma not in the extreme risk zone is Castilla La Mancha (216.11), and the Spanish overseas enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla both have incidence rates under 200.
Fatalities: nine Covid-related deaths have been reported across five provinces in the last 24 hours; three in Sevilla, two in Málaga, two in Córdoba, one in Cádiz and one in Granada, bringing the total number of fatalities to 10,272.
Recoveries: the number of people who have recovered from the virus since the previous update is 1,282; less than half of the number of new cases.
Hospitalizations: the number of Covid patients in Andalucía’s hospitals is rising, as illustrated in the image, and there are now 858 people hospitalized with the virus, of whom 147 are in intensive care. This is an enormous rise (146 in 24 hours) since Monday’s update (July 19), when there were 712 patients.
Vaccines: 93,215 doses of Covid vaccines have been administered in the Andalucía region in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of jabs given to 9,301,308; so far, 52.5 per cent of the population has been fully inoculated.
