ARCHIVED - No changes to Covid restrictions in Andalusia for two weeks: update April 7
Regional and provincial perimeter borders will stay closed for at least another fortnight, and bars must shut at 10.30 pm, the Andalusian authorities have decided.
The Andalusian regional government had been saying for days that for the time being the so-called ‘committee of experts’ would probably leave the coronavirus restrictions as they were, and that has indeed been the case.
The committee met on Wednesday (7 April) and decided that almost all the restrictions that have been in place for the last two weeks will stay the same for at least another 15 days from Saturday (April 17) unless the situation worsens significantly.
Therefore, the region and its eight provinces remain closed, meaning nobody can enter, leave or travel from one to another without just cause. The curfew, which will disappear at the end of the state of alarm on 9 May, remains in place between 11 pm and 6 am, and gatherings cannot exceed six people outside or four inside bars and restaurants.
Regarding opening hours, bars and shops can stay open until 10.30 pm, as they have been since 17 March. The experts have made one slight change to the restrictions in this area: in areas at a level 4, grade 1 risk level shops will be able to stay open until 8 pm rather than 6 pm as before.
The continuation of the restrictions is the result of the gradual upward trend in the incidence of coronavirus in the region, the Health Department has explained, as well as due to unsatisfactory progress in vaccinating the 65-79 age group.
However, the committee decided not to tighten restrictions for the time being due to the ‘pandemic fatigue’ that is increasingly apparent among the population.
The territorial committees meet today, Thursday, to update incidence rates in Andalusian municipalities. According to health department data, on Wednesday there were 63 towns and villages with rates of over 500 per 100,000, meaning they face perimeter closures, and 11 of them have rates over 1,000 per 100,000, meaning non-essential businesses must close. This information will be published on Thursday afternoon (April 8).
