The provincial capital will be accessible by a bus replacement service until work to bring the AVE to the city is complete

No trains to Almeria for the next two years

Not until 2026 will you be able to get the train in and out of Almería capital as the work moves full steam ahead to bury the train tracks as they pass through the city.

At that point, it is foreseen that the AVE high-speed rail service will arrive in Almería, but until then, from this Tuesday March 5 onwards, trains will no longer stop in the city’s train station.

Instead, the end of the line will be the station at Huércal-Viator, from where travellers from Granada and Madrid will have to get a bus the rest of the way using the bus replacement service.

As such, from this Tuesday onwards, the eight daily Media Distancia Granada-Almería trains (four in each direction), and the two Intercity Madrid-Almería trains (one in each direction) will arrive and depart from Huércal-Viator station, and between there and Almería city the service will be guaranteed by bus.

The usual timetables have been modified, especially those departing from Almería, to include the route by road from the intermodal station and the Huércal station. Departure times from Granada and Madrid will remain the same as at present.

The Government sub-delegate, José María Martín, told the press, “The works are very advanced and have made it no longer compatible with the railway route”, while asking passengers for “understanding” in view of any inconvenience that may be caused.

Delegate of the Government in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, also stressed that these works guarantee both the arrival of the AVE to Almería and the connection with the Mediterranean Corridor, which is under construction in Andalucía and Murcia.

“There is an absolute guarantee that in 2026 the high-speed train will reach Almería and, therefore, the connection with the Mediterranean Corridor,” said Fernández, who pointed out that this phase of the railway work will include a new station for Almería.
