Nose surgery for Murcia's British residents: the UK, Spain or Turkey?
Neither health system pays for a purely cosmetic nose job, so each private route needs weighing up
British residents on the Costa Cálida who are thinking about having their nose reshaped soon find that the bill will be theirs. The NHS says the operation is not usually available for cosmetic reasons, and Spain's public health system excludes treatment whose purpose is aesthetic or cosmetic improvement.
That leaves three realistic routes: fly back to the UK, stay in Spain, or go further afield to Turkey.
Going private in the UK
The NHS puts the cost of nose reshaping in the UK at £4,000 to £7,000, before consultations and any follow-up care. Language is no barrier and registration is easy to check, but every consultation, the operation and each check-up adds a flight and a bed for the night. For someone based near Cartagena or Mazarrón, that can mean several return trips in a few months.
Staying in Spain
Surgery close to home keeps the surgeon a short drive away, which matters when the NHS says swelling can take up to six months to go completely. SECPRE, the Spanish plastic surgeons' association, recommends confirming that a surgeon holds the official specialist title, Cirugía Plástica, Estética y Reparadora, which takes at least five years of training after medical school. Ask for an itemised quote in euros, and check whether consultations and written aftercare come in English.

Travelling to Turkey
Istanbul is now a direct flight away: Pegasus began flying from Alicante-Elche to Sabiha Gökçen airport in June 2026, with four flights a week at launch.
AKM Clinic in Istanbul publishes a UK-versus-Turkey rhinoplasty price comparison that sets its own all-inclusive prices, from about £2,600, against private quotes of around £10,000 in London. Those UK figures are the clinic's and sit above the NHS range, so treat the comparison as a starting point. The clinic attributes its lower prices to the exchange rate and lower overheads rather than lower standards. Its package bundles surgeon and anaesthesia fees, tests before the operation, check-ups afterwards, hotel accommodation and breakfast, transfers by private car and a coordinator. Air fares and day-to-day spending sit outside the package, and revision surgery on a nose operated on before is priced higher, at £3,350. The clinic's rhinoplasty packages are built around a six-night stay in Istanbul, which leaves room for checks before the flight home.
AKM's founder is Dr Akif Mehmetoğlu, a dermatosurgeon by specialty. The surgical team also lists Dr Göknil Gültekin, whose background is ENT surgery, with a European Board qualification and further training in facial plastics. Dr Aylin Akbulut Yılmaz, named as the third surgeon, is a plastic surgeon trained in both reconstructive and cosmetic work.
What to ask, wherever you go
Ask who will operate and what their specialist training is, how many nights you need to stay before travelling, who deals with a problem once you are home, and what your insurer says about complications from planned surgery. Like any operation it carries risks, including bleeding, infection and changes to breathing. The NHS advises allowing up to two weeks off work, and the final shape takes several months to show.
The price is the easiest number to compare. The surgeon's name, the aftercare plan and the time you can give to recovery tell you more.
