Orihuela Costa cliff top walk receives the 2025 Blue Trail award
The 2.5 kilometre trail stretches between the beautiful beaches of Cala Capitán and La Caleta in Cabo Roig

The stunning cliff top walk in Orihuela Costa has been recognised with the 2025 Blue Trail award by the Environmental and Consumer Education Association (Adeac). This 2.5-kilometre trail, which runs between the beautiful beaches of Cala Capitán and La Caleta, has been praised for its breathtaking scenic, geological and heritage value.
The elevated coastal path offers visitors and locals the opportunity to enjoy five stunning viewpoints with panoramic views of the cliffs, as well as the historic Cabo Roig Tower and a 15th-century fortification listed as a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC). The award is a testament to the trail's unique attractions and the efforts made to restore and protect the natural environment.
However, despite this recognition, the cliff walk is not without its challenges. A 30-metre stretch of the path, which connects Aguamarina with La Caleta in Cabo Roig, was closed in 2021 due to a court ruling. The pedestrian path was blocked off at each end to serve as a private access for the residents of the Bellavista residential area, forcing pedestrians to walk a 1-kilometre detour.
The award ceremony was held at the Murcia Region Tourism Institute, where Costa Councillor Manuel Mestre received the award on behalf of Orihuela Costa.
While the Blue Trail award is a significant achievement, it also highlights the need to address the ongoing issues surrounding the trail's accessibility and the impact of urban development on the natural environment.
