ARCHIVED - Over 9,000 new cases in three days: Andalusia Covid update April 22
There were 9,162 new Covid cases in the southern Spanish region since the last update on Tuesday
Since the last Covid update for Andalucía, there have been fewer deaths from the virus and hospital admission figures have gone down, but the number of new infections remains high even as facemasks are made optional indoors throughout the country.
New infections
In the last three days, Andalucía has registered a total of 9,162 new positive cases of coronavirus. According to data released this Friday by the Regional Ministry of Health, there have been a total of 1,437,951 infections in the region since the start of the pandemic.
Seville heads the table of the provinces with the number of cases, with 1,935, followed by Malaga with 1,618; Cordoba with 1,151; Almeria with 1,024; Cadiz with 1,162; Jaen with 811; Granada with 761; and Huelva with 700.
Cumulative incidence rate
The cumulative incidence rate, which now is only recorded for people aged 60 years and over, immunocompromised persons and pregnant women, has reached 224.01 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the last 14 days.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 588 patients admitted to hospitals for Covid-19 throughout Andalucía, which is a decrease of 23 people compared to Tuesday, and 37 patients in an ICU, which is down by seven.
By provinces: in Almeria (58 hospitalisations, of which 1 in ICU), Cadiz (100, of which 6 in ICU), Cordoba (54, of which 5 in ICU), Granada (44, of which 2 in ICU), Huelva (42, of which 1 in ICU), Jaen (43, of which 3 in ICU), Malaga (117, of which 8 in ICU) and Seville (130, of which 11 in ICU).
Deaths
The region registered 38 Covid deaths in the last three days, bringing the overall death toll from the coronavirus in Andalusia to 13,534, while the number of recovered patients has risen to 1,393,277.
Of the 38 deaths, nine were recorded in Malaga, five in Seville, seven in Cordoba and Almeria, four in Cadiz and Jaen and two in Granada.
Vaccinations
A total of 18,386,454 doses have been administered in the region, while 7,417,987 people have received the full course of vaccines and a total of 4,238,125 people have received the third dose.
