ARCHIVED - Rescue workers search for man who disappeared while swimming off Almeria coast
The 24-year-old man was reportedly swimming off the coast of Almeria in Andalucia region when he went missing.
Rescue workers are continuing the search on Wednesday for a 24-year-old man who disappeared while swimming on the San Miguel beach in Almeria on Tuesday (May 25).
Officers from Marine Rescue, the Guardia Civil and Red Cross have been carrying out an intense search operation to try to find the man who went missing at around 1.12 pm from the beach in the Cabo de Gata area.
Emergency workers initially received reports that the man had been in the sea for more than an hour and had not returned, but had left his belongings on the shore.
Marine Rescue has now sent out their Helimer 205 helicopter and Guardamar Polimnia boat while the Guardia Civil has also sent out two patrol boats to search for the man.
Air rescue workers in Almeria were also forced to intervene earlier this month when three irregular migrants got into trouble at sea after trying to cross from North Africa to Spain.
