San Javier rolls out first-ever full street maintenance service
The new €600,000-a-year service will repair streets, paths, and road signs across the town

San Javier has introduced its first-ever comprehensive street maintenance service, intended to keep streets safe and in good condition for everyone.
Mayor José Miguel Luengo and Public Services Councillor María Dolores Ruiz introduced the service on February 16. The mayor described it as “a key contract that strengthens the town's commitment to ongoing street maintenance, road safety, and the well-being of residents.”
The service is already up and running with an annual budget of €600,000. It covers all public streets and road signs across the municipality. A dedicated team of at least ten staff members and six vehicles will respond quickly to everyday maintenance issues, whether scheduled or urgent, giving priority to work that could affect the safety of pedestrians or drivers.

The team will take care of potholes, resurfacing roads, repairing damaged pavements and paths, replacing curbs and steps, improving accessibility features, and adjusting manholes and street covers. They will also manage road signage, including installation, repair, repainting, removal, and reorganisation of both vertical and horizontal signs.
Mayor Luengo pointed out that the service complements the town's successful 'Green Line' (Línea Verde), which allows residents to report street problems instantly. With the new team, these reports will be dealt with quickly and efficiently.
He also noted that the service builds on the local government's ongoing investment in road resurfacing, which included €1.7 million last year and a further €1.5 million planned for 2026.

The municipality of San Javier has three main offices giving tourist information to visitors, as well as two information points. There is also a summer tourist information point located on the seafront in Santiago de la Ribera as well as one at kilometre 12-13 of La Manga del Mar Menor next to Playa Mistral.
Due to its location on the fringes of the Mar Menor and Mediterranean, San Javier has a period of intense summer tourism activity during the peak summer months, although it is popular with retirees of all nationalities out of peak season.
