Scottish rapist arrested in Spain after two-year manhunt
Proceedings are underway to extradite the fugitive from Spain so he can stand trial

Two alleged rape victims may at last see justice as their attacker, 55-year-old Scots man James Clacher, has been arrested in Spain after a two-year man hunt and will soon be extradited to face trial.
Former gym manager Clacher disappeared before he could be tried for the 2019 and 2020 attacks. On May 31, 2022, his clothes and car, a Suzuki Swift, were found in Loch Long car park in Arrochar, Argyll and Police Scotland launched a wide-scale search for the suspect.
Officials in the UK appealed to the public at the time for any information that might lead to his capture, but warned citizens not to approach the dangerous criminal.
Clacher was originally supposed to take the stand at the High Court in Glasgow on January 16 of 2023 to face two counts of rape. He is accused of sexually assaulting one woman in a flat in Troon in August 2019, and another at an address in Gorbals, Glasgow in September 2020.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 55-year-old man was arrested on an international arrest warrant in Spain on Tuesday, 21 May.
“We are liaising with partner agencies, and he will be subject to extradition proceedings.”
