ARCHIVED - Shooting in Marbella leaves Irishman, 24, fighting for life in Costa del Sol hospital
The Irish citizen, who has not been identified, was the only person seriously injured in the shootout
A 24-year-old Irishman has been seriously wounded in a shooting incident in Marbella on the Costa del Sol.
Emergency Services in Malaga received a call from a private individual at around 5.45pm on Tuesday September 20 alerting them that several gunshots had been heard in the area of Lago de las Tortugas and that a man had been injured, according to health sources.
An ambulance, as well as units from the local and national police services, were sent to the scene immediately, and the Irish victim was transferred to the Costa del Sol Hospital with a gunshot wound with an entry and exit wound in his side.
Police have opened an investigation into the shooting, and while no arrests have yet been made police sources say that among their main hypotheses is that the incident is down to a possible settling of scores.
Another shooting happened in a Marbella nightclub in mid-July, allegedly down to a drug gang-related dispute, which left another Irishman hospitalised.
