Showers turned off on Cadiz beaches
The measure has been put in place to save water, although it won’t apply to foot washing stations or showers for people with reduced mobility

From this Monday August 14, the outdoor showers on the beaches of Cadiz city have been shut off, a measure announced by Mayor Bruno García to save water in the face of the lack of rain and a possible approaching drought.
Instead, signs will be put up to explain to people why the showers are being shut off. However, the foot washing taps will stay on, as will the shower facilities specifically adapted for people with reduced mobility.
For the footbaths, there will be signs saying that they should only be used “for feet” and asking people not to waste water.
“Our intention is that these measures serve to collaborate in reducing water consumption and raising awareness. This is a problem of all that we have to solve together and achieve a saving in water consumption,” said Mayor García.
In this way, Cadiz is following in the footsteps of Malaga, which has cut the water to the showers of several provincial beaches in compliance with official drought recommendations.
Elsewhere in the province of Cadiz, several coastal towns cut off their beach shower water supplies at the beginning of summer, including San Roque, Vejer, Chipiona and La Línea.
Meanwhile, Tarifa has limited the use of its beach showers to a timeframe between 12pm and 9pm, and in El Puerto de Santa María smart showers have been installed which are powered by solar panels and which allows them to be turned on and off remotely.
