ARCHIVED - Spanish footballer stabbed to death in random attack in Cadiz
The 24-year-old was stabbed in the chest in an unprovoked street attack in the Cádiz town, Chipiona
A Spanish amateur footballer has died after being stabbed in the chest "with a large knife" in a horrific, random street attack in broad daylight in Cádiz.
Francisco J. Naval Perez, 24, played for Chipiona CF, and was walking along a street in the town when he was stabbed at around 2pm on Saturday April 1. A 20-year-old suspect, also from Chipiona, has been arrested.
According to Guardia Civil investigators, there are no known links between the detainee and deceased and no apparent reason behind the unprovoked attack. Police sources also claim the attacker lunged at Perez without saying a word.
The married father-of-one, known as Paco, was rushed to hospital in Sanlucar and Jerez de la Frontera, but due to the gravity of his injuries, he was transferred to Cádiz's Puerta del Mar hospital. Tragically, he died at around 2.30am on Sunday April 2.
The young footballer's murder has shocked the municipality and football community.

In a tweet shared by president of the Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE), David Aganzo, Chipiona CF said: "We don't even have words to start with. This seems like a nightmare, but unfortunately it's real.
"Our player Paco Naval has left us, he passed away early this morning, fighting between life and death. Paco was only 24-years-old. A whole life ahead of him."
Real Madrid also paid a tribute.
The statement read: "Real Madrid CF deeply regrets the death of Paco Naval, a Chipiona CF player, and wishes to express its condolences and affection to all his family, his club, teammates and loved ones. RIP."
The police have not released any further details, but according to a report in local newspaper La Voz de Cádiz, "Paco was talking to some friends in the street and was suddenly subjected to a brutal and deadly attack".
