Swimming banned on Lanzarote beach due to presence of blue dragons
Lifeguards raised the red flag after sightings of stinging sea slugs in Lanzarote waters

Swimming was temporarily banned on the Playa de Famara beach in Teguise, Lanzarote, this Monday July 28 following the sighting of several blue dragon sea slugs.
Lifeguards raised the red flag after spotting around six specimens of this striking but potentially dangerous gastropod, whose scientific name is Glaucus atlanticus. The island’s Emergency Consortium warned that more could be present in the water and alerted the local council.
Teguise Town Hall began preparing warning signs to inform residents and visitors. Meanwhile, lifeguards continued to monitor the area for further sightings, the main reason being that the blue dragon’s sting can cause skin irritation in humans, despite how beautiful they are.
