A very wet and blustery week awaits those of us in the Region of Murcia at the end of January, with near constant rain forecast and weather alerts still in place for strong winds, though curiously temperatures will apparently be rising up into the low- to mid-20s by midweek, according to Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

 

 

 

Monday is forecast to be overcast but dry, with no rain set to fall. However, Aemet has issued yellow-level weather warnings for the northern and western parts of the Region of Murcia due to winds that could reach up to 70kmh, up to 6am.

 

Temperatures on Monday will be around 8-11ºC at their lowest point, early in the morning, and rising up to 14-15ºC in the north, and 18-20ºC in the south and centre of the Region – a significant jump up from last week – and these temperatures are set to go up as the week goes on.

 

 

 

More weather alerts are in place for strong winds on Tuesday, from 10am until 9pm, both in the northwest near Caravaca de la Cruz and in the southeast along the coast of Cartagena, La Manga and the Mar Menor.

 

It is also on Tuesday when the rain from Storm Joseph sweeps in from the rest of mainland Spain, starting in the morning from the northwest and spreading to cover the rest of Murcia by the afternoon, then turning thundery and stormy towards the evening.

 

 

 

 

Wednesday, too, dawns wet and grey, with the drizzly showers forecast to last all day long, and more strong gusts of wind likely around the north, centre and Campo de Cartagena areas, especially in the afternoon.

 

 

 

There is no let-up in the raging wind on Thursday, and the rain is expected to persist even after the sun pokes its head out in the afternoon, but the most curious thing is that temperatures are set to rise even further, with night-time minimums as high as 15-16ºC along the southern coastline and maximum temperatures in central municipalities like Alhama de Murcia, Molina de Segura and Murcia capital reaching up to a whopping 25ºC!
