Temperatures climb back up over 20 degrees in Andalusia: Weekly weather forecast January 22-28
The south of Spain is due to see soaring temperatures and an unbroken sunny spell all this week
Andalucía weather forecast, Wednesday January 24
The forecast for the autonomous community of Andalucía this week could not be more different from the pouring, pummelling rain we got last week. This last full week of January will bring barely a hint of a drop of rain to any single part of the region, but will instead give us plenty of sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures.
As nice as it will be to have sunny days that let us walk around outside without coats on, even as we are in the ‘bleak midwinter’, the fact that it isn’t raining slowly but steadily will not help Andalucía to fend off the dreaded, widespread water restrictions which regional president Juanma Moreno has warned of and which the Costa del Sol is already getting a taste of.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued yellow weather warnings for this Wednesday January 24 and Thursday 25 for strong winds of 50-60kmh on the coast of Cádiz and around the Strait of Gibraltar, and there will be waves of up to 3 metres high.
The warmest days of this week will be Thursday January 25 and Friday 26, when temperatures get up to 24-25ºC at the warmest part of the day (around 4pm), not only on the coast but also in the usually cooler inland parts of Jaén and Córdoba.
Even the sierras, which are usually much colder – cold enough even to ski in the case of Granada’s Sierra Nevada – will have temperatures above freezing, a worrying development for this time of year as it jeopardises the ski season.
That said, this year-round sunshine does have its advantages, and it’s one of the reasons why homes and businesses in this area of Spain rely so heavily on solar power technology to generate electricity and reduce energy bills.
