ARCHIVED - Toddler, 2, in critical condition after being pulled from swimming pool in Malaga
The Danish child was responsive when she was rescued from a communal pool on an urbanisation in Estepona
A two-year-old Danish child is in a critical condition after being found unresponsive in a swimming pool on an urbanisation in Estepona, Malaga province.
The youngster, who was pulled from the water by family members, remains in Materno Infantil Hospital, Malaga city, where she was admitted with symptoms of drowning on Monday afternoon, March 20.
Emergencias 112 Andalucía confirmed that at around 1.15pm they received a call reporting a toddler "had drowned" in a swimming pool in a residential estate in Estepona; although when they received the call the child was already out of the water.
Health teams along with local and National Police officers were immediately sent to the scene.
Medics attended to the child before she was rushed to the Materno Infantil Hospital and is said to be in "a critical condition in the Paediatric ICU with symptoms of drowning", according to health sources.
Last month, a local police officer and a sailor from the Virgen del Carmen marina saved a swimmer from drowning on La Venus beach in the centre of Marbella. The two heroes have been put forward as recipients of the Civil Protection Medal of Merit from Marbella Town Hall.
