Torrevieja green lights 1,300 new homes and hospital expansion

The project includes a housing development, school land, green areas and road improvements in La Ceñuela

Torrevieja City Council has approved plans that will allow a major new development in the La Ceñuela area, paving the way for more than 1,300 homes along with space for a future hospital expansion.

The project, which has now moved into a public consultation phase, also includes land set aside for new schools, green areas and improved road connections in the southern part of the town.

As part of the plans, around 11,500 m² has been reserved for healthcare use, intended for the future expansion of Torrevieja’s hospital. In addition, nearly 30,000 m² will be used for educational facilities.

Green spaces will form a significant part of the development, with around 72,000 m² allocated to parks and open areas.

The proposal also includes upgrades to local infrastructure, with plans to widen the CV-95 between the hospital roundabout and the desalination plant, as well as new connections to the N-332 to help manage traffic in the area.

The development has been in the pipeline for many years. An earlier agreement dating back to 2002 saw land set aside for the hospital, although progress was later stalled due to planning restrictions. A court ruling in 2024 cleared the way for the project to move forward again.

With the initial approval now in place, the next step will allow residents and stakeholders to review the plans as part of the public consultation process before any final decisions are made.
