ARCHIVED - Tragic end to Andalucian town fiestas after street cleaner collapses and dies
Calahonda council in Granada considered suspending the last evening of festivites but the family urged them not to

Patron saint festivities in Calahonda, Granada, ended on a tragic note on Sunday August 7 after a street cleaner collapsed and died at the end of his shift.
Street sweeper Antonio Palomo had just finished when he passed out at around 12.40pm on the N-340 near Calle Zarzalillo. The National Police, Local Police and 061 medical services were mobilised but, sadly, attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful and he died at the scene.
The Town Hall considered suspending the final day of festivities as a mark of respect following the "exceptional" worker's death, but his family stressed that "Antonio loved life and would not have wanted it".
Tributes have been paid to Antonio by the council and his employer, the Autonomous Local Entity Carchuna-Calahonda, which posted a touching accolade to the deceased.
"Today is a very sad day for all the residents of Carchuna and Calahonda because we have to mourn the death of Antonio Palomo, an exceptional worker with the Cleaning Service and a great person who we will always remember.
"From ELA we want to convey our deepest condolences to his entire family. We have considered suspending the parties but the family prefers that they are not cancelled because Antonio, a person who loved life, would not have wanted it," read the post.
The Town Hall also offered its condolences to Antonio's family, describing his as "a wonderful person" who will never be forgotten.
A post mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death and the Prevention of Occupational Risks and the Labour Inspectorate has been alerted.
