ARCHIVED - VIDEO: Amazing rare seaspout spotted off the coast of Chiclana, Cadiz
Stormclouds over the sea cause a spectacular and dangerous sea tornado to form in Andalusia

The video was taken from La Barrosa beach, and show the seaspout – a meteorological phenomena that is like a tornado, but with its base in the water instead of on the land. They are columns of air that rotate quickly and violently, coming into contact with the sea at the bottom and hanging down from a storm cloud, normally a ‘cumulus congestus’.

In general, they are smaller and slower than tornadoes on land, and tend to last for a shorter time. In any case, although they disappear once they touch the ground, they should not be underestimated as they have sometimes caused significant damage.
There has been flooding in some areas of Chiclana and other parts of Andalusia, with trees falling and landslides blocking roads.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) is maintaining an active yellow warning for heavy rainfall of up to 40 litres per hour throughout the province of Cádiz and most of Andalusia. In addition to the rain, intense gusts of wind are expected in the coastal area, as well as storms and strong waves.
