Violent Irish tourist arrested in Spain following row over politics
The Irish man threatened other holidaymakers with a knife at a Mallorca resort
An Irish tourist was arrested by Spanish police when he reportedly brandished a blade and threatened other holidaymakers after a “row about politics”.
Hotel staff in the Andratx municipality in the western part of Mallorca phoned the police shortly after 1am on Wednesday September 13 claiming the man was “out of control”.
Officers from the Alcudia station reportedly had to force their way into the hotel of the unnamed Irish man, who is described as being “well built and around 6ft 5ins tall”, and pepper sprayed him when he resisted arrest.
Shockingly, local reports claim that several other guests threw objects at the police as they led the suspect away in handcuffs.
Days before, another Irish tourist was arrested in the Costa Blanca city of Torrevieja for causing a head-on collision that killed the another driver. The 29-year-old old fled the scene, leaving his badly damaged rental car behind.
Police quickly tracked him down thanks to the rental contract and the tourist is now being investigated for the crime of reckless homicide, which carries a prison sentence of between one and four years, and fleeing the scene of an accident, which could lead to three to six months behind bars.
