Living in Spain, we all have to get used to uninvited home invaders during the summer months, as every creature from cockroaches to mosquitoes takes up residence in our homes. But one Sevilla woman got far more than she bargained for this week when she discovered an enormous snake peeking out from under her bed.
The drama unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday morning, July 30, when this night owl was preparing to go to sleep. Much to her amazement, she noticed a huge tail poking out from behind her headboard and the terrified homeowner wasted no time in calling Emergencias Sevilla.
The phone operator who took her call at 3.55am reported that the woman was, understandably, “crying and very frightened.”
Firefighters and officers from the Local Police rushed to her home and quickly captured the unexpected guest, before handing the snake over to an animal shelter in the Andalucía capital.
The woman later told the officers that she had no idea how the snake, which was around a metre long, had made its way into her house or, more disturbingly, how long it had been lurking in her bedroom.
Officers will now try to identify the species of the reptile and locate its owner.
Earlier this month, an Alhama de Murcia resident got his own slithery surprise when he discovered an impressively large snake inside his house. Luckily, animal experts from the Local Police were quickly on hand and managed to capture the reptile without harming it.
