Young woman rescued from bridge near Zenia Boulevard
The girl climbed on top of the pedestrian bridge near the Villamartín road

There were moments of extreme tension on Thursday afternoon, October 30, in Orihuela Costa when a young woman was seen climbing to the top of the iron structure on the blue pedestrian bridge that crosses the AP-7 motorway near the Villamartín road. The bridge is close to the Zenia Boulevard shopping centre and visible from the surrounding area.
The incident began shortly after 1.30pm and quickly drew the attention of passers-by and motorists. Local police officers arrived at the scene, accompanied by a psychologist, and worked to persuade the girl to come down.
After a period of negotiation, she agreed to climb down and was treated by medical staff. Her identity and the reasons behind the incident have not been released.
The situation caused some disruption in the area, as the bridge and nearby roads were busy at the time. By around 3pm the situation was under control and traffic had returned to normal.
The pedestrian bridge is located near IES Playa Flamenca, the only high school on the coast, which has more than 700 students. The school has faced ongoing challenges related to violence and drug use, which drew renewed attention following the killing of 15-year-old student Cloe earlier this year.
Orihuela Local Police have a specialised unit that works closely with schools and local communities to prevent risky behaviour among young people. Officers have urged parents to stay alert to any warning signs their children may show, monitor their online activity and contact schools or police if they notice anything worrying.
