ARCHIVED - UK most wanted fugitive to be extradited from Spain
The UK’s most wanted woman will be flown back to Britain to serve her sentence

Sarah Panitzke, 48, the only woman ever to feature on Britain’s ‘Most Wanted’ fugitive list, will shortly be extradited back to the UK after she was apprehended in Tarragona in February. The tax fraud criminal pleaded with the Spanish authorities to allow her to face her prison sentence in her “adopted home” and claimed that her Spanish husband only has 10 years to live following a liver transplant.
Her arguments fell on deaf ears though, and she will soon be flown back to Britain where she faces up to 17 years behind bars for laundering millions of euros through companies in Spain, Andorra and Dubai that specialised in buying VAT-free mobile phones and selling them on in the UK.

After absconding during her trial in Britain back in 2013, Ms Panitzke reportedly moved to a town near Barcelona before fleeing once more when she heard that the police were on her trail. She changed her appearance multiple times and moved location to avoid detection, operating under the false name of Antonietta Argiulo. A massive surveillance operation resulted in her capture while she was walking her dogs on a beach in the small Tarragona town of Santa Barbara earlier this year.
Following the fugitive’s arrest Simon York, director of the fraud investigation service at HMRC, said: ‘
“Sarah Panitzke was one of Britain’s most wanted tax fugitives.
“She played a pivotal role in a multimillion-pound VAT fraud and moved millions through offshore bank accounts.
“Panitzke thought she had put herself outside of the reach of HMRC, but through our work with UK law enforcement and international partners we have tracked down another tax fugitive.
“No tax criminal is beyond our reach.”
