ARCHIVED - Andalusia announces new Covid testing and priority measures
The Community of Andalucía will prioritise testing and monitoring of the vulnerable
Following a meeting on Monday January 3 of Andalucía’s Regional Committee for High Impact on Public Health, also known as the ‘Committee of Experts’, a decision has been made to prioritise Covid testing for vulnerable adults and those with severe symptoms. Telephone monitoring of close contacts in self-isolation will also be eliminated.
New guidelines issued on January 3
- Anyone who suspects they may have Covid without carrying out a test should self-isolate and notify any close contacts immediately. Coronavirus diagnostic tests (PDIA) will be prioritised in people with more serious symptoms and who are considered vulnerable.
- Where an over-the-counter self test has produced a positive result, the person must notify the Public Health Service, preferably through the Salud Responde app, in addition to initiating isolation and control measures. PDIA will be carried out in those selected cases where it is required.
- For people who have asymptomatic or mild cases, home isolation will be recommended but clinical monitoring is not necessary. In symptomatic cases or for vulnerable people, quarantine will also be required and a clinical follow-up will be carried out.
- Those with confirmed cases must isolate for a minimum of seven days, and the person may exit quarantine at this point once they are asymptomatic or at least three days have elapsed without symptoms.
- For those with severe disease or immunosuppression, the minimum isolation period of 21 days is maintained. An antigen test will be carried out on the 7th day of staff working in health or social care centres before returning to work.
- Regarding close contacts, priority will be given in those areas in which the exposure is considered high risk.
- In schools and universities, it will no longer be necessary to quarantine entire classrooms. If and when an outbreak occurs, the primary Care and Epidemiology teams will determine the appropriate measures.
Close contacts
- Close contacts with a full vaccination schedule will be instructed to carry out only essential activities and reduce their social interactions as much as possible for 10 days after the last exposure.
- Close contacts not vaccinated or with only one dose will be quarantined for seven days after the last contact with a confirmed case. They will take extreme precautions for up to 10 days, reducing social interactions as much as possible use the mask constantly.
- All close contacts of a confirmed case of Covid, regardless of their immunisation status, are advised to wear a mask, monitor their helath for telltale symptoms and notify the health authorities immediately if they become ill.
