Malaga-New York flights start a month early due to unprecedented demand
The daily direct flight between the Costa del Sol and the US began on Saturday May 4
United Airlines started operating a daily flight between Málaga and New York on Saturday May 4, a full month earlier than planned, due to the huge demand from passengers.
With the introduction of new daily non-stop summer services between Barcelona and San Francisco, beginning May 24, as well as an early seasonal start of flights from Barcelona to Chicago and Washington DC, United is increasing its flights from Spain by 30% this 2024.
In a statement, the airline pointed out that with flights from a total of five cities, United "flies to more destinations in Spain than any other US airline and is the only airline that offers non-stop services between the United States and Málaga."
Expanded seasonal service from Malaga to New York’s Newark Airport builds on United's extensive network from Spain: year-round daily non-stop services from Madrid to New York, year-round daily direct flights from Barcelona to Newark, seasonal services from Barcelona to Chicago O'Hare and Washington DC, seasonal flights from Madrid to Washington DC and a summer service from Tenerife and Palma de Mallorca to New York Newark, as well as a new and upcoming service between Barcelona and San Francisco.
The American airline will thus operate the longest transatlantic summer schedule in its history, with direct connections to almost 60 destinations across the Americas.
United is now the largest airline on the Atlantic, flying non-stop from 37 transatlantic destinations by summer 2024, "more than all the other US airlines combined."
It is also the only carrier that directly connects the United States with Málaga, Mallorca and Tenerife.
The Malaga-New York flights will operate Boeing 757-200 aircraft, with a total of 176 seats: 16 flat-bed seats in United PolarisSM and 160 seats in economy class, including 42 Economy Plus seats with extra leg room.
