ARCHIVED - Estepona invites locals to offer suggestions for climate change plan
Locals in Estepona, in the Málaga province of the Andalucía region, are being encouraged to take part in the council’s plan to tackle climate change.
As Estepona council puts together its Action Plan for Climate and Sustainable Energy in a bid to create local policies to tackle climate change, it is asking residents to get involved to offer their views.
After a working group of experts in the field was chaired by the Mayor of Estepona, Jose Maria Garcia Urbano, the council put together a draft of its climate change document.
The council has also been looking at data of greenhouse gas emissions and Estepona council’s carbon footprint from the year 2019 in order to be able to compare figures in later years and look at whether numbers are coming down.
Estepona officials are now asking locals to get involved in the draft document to offer their suggestions.
A form on the council’s website has been adapted for different age groups, allowing input from everyone living in Estepona and is available online at www.estepona.es until May 19.
The council’s latest climate change plan follows other initiatives including Estepona’s ‘Garden of the Costa del Sol’ scheme to cut down on traffic and improve areas used by pedestrians.
Estepona council has also been working on creating new green spaces, doubling the number in the last 10 years.
