ARCHIVED - VIDEO: Brit charged with stabbing Spanish teenager to death in Costa del Sol road rage attack
The 23-year-old was extradited to Spain from the UK to face justice and is looking at 16 years in jail if convicted
A British man has been charged with stabbing a Spanish teenager to death in a road rage attack near Estepona on the Costa del Sol in November 2020.
Lewis Harry Briggs, who was extradited to Spain from Leeds in the UK to face justice following a five-week manhunt, could be jailed for more than 16-years if convicted of murder.
The 23-year-old is accused of stabbing Ulrich Perez, 19, in the heart during an alleged attack that took place on a pedestrian crossing in Las Acacias Diana residential development.
The teenager was returning home from a nearby supermarket when Briggs was reportedly forced to brake suddenly to let him cross. He allegedly told the Brit he was driving his UK-plated Mercedes too fast before Briggs got out of the car and after a brief scuffle, he is said to have kicked Ulrich to the ground and stabbed him in the heart.
He then drove off. The next day, Briggs allegedly removed the number plates on the car, replacing them with stolen ones from an Audi S8 before leaving the country.
Briggs, 21 at the time, was living with family in Marbella, but hid out in West Yorkshire, UK, before police caught up with him and he was extradited and charged.
According to court documents: "After a struggle with the victim, with the intention of ending his life, we allege the accused kicked him in the chest and stabbed him in the chest before fleeing.
"As a result of the brutal aggression the victim died from an injury caused by a single stab wound to the chest which penetrated his heart and caused massive external haemorrhaging according to the autopsy."
Prosecutors have requested Briggs be jailed for 14 years for the murder of Perez, and a further two years for fraud over the use of stolen number plates.
If found guilty, he also faces paying the victim's family 300,000 euros in compensation.
