ARCHIVED - Beach tragedy as man drowns in Alicante
The victim was pulled unconscious from the sea at Postiguet beach on the Costa Blanca
Medical crews were unable to revive a 38-year-old man who was pulled unconscious from the sea at Alicante’s Postiguet beach.
According to the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU), the 38-year-old got into difficulty just before 2.45pm on Tuesday September 14, and once they had got him to the shore, beach lifeguards performed basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques.
Once on the scene, a SAMU medical team continued with advanced resuscitation and other stabilisation manoeuvres, but there was no response and they could only confirm the man’s death.
A post mortem examination will be carried out to determine exactly how the victim died.
Whilst there have been numerous drownings in the province this summer, the Cruz Roja (Red Cross) in Alicante, has saved 423 victims from drowning over the last four months.
