Brit missing in Benidorm as family issues urgent appeal
Ryan Cullen, from North Ayrshire, is believed to be travelling alone with no phone and possibly no money in the busy Costa Blanca resort
A British tourist has been reported missing in Benidorm, prompting an urgent appeal from his family, who say they are “worried sick” and are asking anyone in the area to keep a look out.Ryan Cullen, a 25 year old from North Ayrshire, was last seen walking towards Benidorm Old Town while travelling alone. His sister Donna Cullen explained that he is “solo travelling with no phone and possibly no money”, which has made it harder for the family to track him or stay in contact.
Police have been contacted about Ryan’s disappearance and investigations are under way on the Costa Blanca, where large numbers of British visitors are currently on holiday. One of his friends, Carly Thomson from Ardrossan, said Ryan was last seen heading towards the Old Town and added, “Everyone’s worried sick about him.”
Earlier on Wednesday, a group of British women reported that they had walked Ryan back to a hotel after finding him “very drunk on the street”. Donna said the family had contacted that hotel but were told he left shortly afterwards. She added that Ryan is in fact staying at Apartamentos Finestrat in Old Town Benidorm, although she said they have struggled to get information due to language barriers and urged anyone staying at or near the complex to keep an eye out for him.
Donna has also asked that Ryan’s photograph be shared on social media, saying, “We just want him found safe and sound and on his way home.” She denied rumours that he had already been found, writing, “This isn’t true. He is still very much missing.”
Ryan’s friends and family have highlighted that he is still coming to terms with the death of his mother, which occurred about a year ago. “Yes he is a Rangers fan in a bit of a state, but he is a son grieving his mother a year to the day, a very loved brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend who is missing in another country from us,” Donna wrote.
Ryan’s aunt has also appealed on social media, asking anyone in Benidorm who might see him to contact the family or the local authorities. The case has attracted attention among local bars and expat groups in the resort, with several urging people to be vigilant and report any sightings.
